Dr. Duan Papouek
The principal organizer of the first 11 meetings of the "PRAHA" series,
Dr. Duan Papouek, passed away
on 14th October 2010
at the age of 80 years after a long battle with cancer.
We remember him not only as a distinguished spectroscopist, but also
as the organizer of legendary
conferences at Liblice Castle.
Click here for a brief history of the "PRAHA" spectroscopy conferences.

Dr. Jon T. Hougen
The establishment of the PRAHA internet archive was inspired by a very personal account of,
on one hand, the goings-on at some of the early conferences in the PRAHA series and,
on the other hand, the intricacies of the Czech language, given by Dr. Jon T. Hougen
at PRAHA2008. This talk marked the occasion of PRAHA2008 being the 20th conference in the series.
Dr. Hougen could be aptly described as the Spirit of Conferences Recent and here
he is being watched by the Ghost of Conferences Past.
Unfortunately, Dr. Hougen passed away suddenly on January 28th, 2019,
in Taipei, Taiwan, while attending a meeting of the Institute of Atomic and Molecular Science.
He will be sorely missed. He was one important factor in giving the PRAHA meetings their unique atmosphere.
He was not only a highly distinguished scientist, he was a mentor of young spectroscopists and a catalyst
of scientific communication.
|
|
The PRAHA internet archive is relatively complete. It now contains the programs, with all available abstracts, from all meetings in the
series (No abstracts were collected for the first meeting in 1970). Also, there are at least a few photographs
from each of the meetings.
However, there are very
few pictures from the 1988, 1990, 1994, and 1996 meetings,
and
rather
few pictures from the
1992, 1998, and 2000 meetings. If you have photographs from any of these meetings that are not on the site already,
we would be very grateful for them. Please scroll to the bottom of the page for instructions as to how to deliver
them to us.
